NYST is an authorized provider of the New York City Fire Department Active Shooter and Medical Emergency Preparedness course.

New York City Fire Department now requires all Fire Safety Directors and Emergency Action Plan Directors to attend the Active Shooter and Medical Emergency Preparedness course. As listed on the NYC Fire Department website, New York Safety and Training is an-FDNY approved school for this course. NYST offers this course every other month in Brooklyn, taught by retired New York City Firefighter and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) authorized outreach trainer Joe O’Donnell.

For this course to meet the FDNY Certificate of Fitness requirements, students must bring either their F-58 Fire Safety Director or F-59 Emergency Action Plan Director certificate of fitness ID card to class for NYST to make a photocopy to submit to FDNY for renewal.

Upon successful completion of this course, all participants will receive an NYST letter of completion; NYST will submit to FDNY names and records of all graduates for the purpose of FDNY to issue new Certificate of Fitness ID cards. Holders of the F-25 / F-58 Fire Safety Director card will be issued a new F-85 FSD W/ACTIVE SHOOTER PREP card from FDNY; holders of the F-59 Emergency Action Plan card will be issued a new F-89 FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY DIRECTOR card from FDNY.
